Evening Reset: A simple Night time ritual to release stress & restore your energy

At the end of the day, there’s usually more sitting in your body than you realize.

Not just physical tension, but the conversations that stayed with you, the emotions you didn’t have time to process, the energy of busy places, difficult interactions, or simply carrying responsibility for everyone around you.

Many of us move from one day straight into the next without ever pausing to release what we’ve been holding. Over time, that weight can build—not only in the body, but in the way we think, sleep, and move through life.

An evening ritual doesn’t have to be complicated. It simply creates a moment to pause before bed, allowing your body and mind to recognize that the day is complete.

For me, this isn’t about perfection or having a long nighttime routine.

It’s about creating space to let go.

Why an Evening Ritual Matters

Throughout the day we’re constantly interacting with people, technology, responsibilities, and environments that require our attention. Our nervous system rarely gets a chance to fully settle before we’re onto the next task.

Creating a simple evening ritual helps signal to your body that it’s safe to slow down.

Whether your ritual includes a warm shower, journaling, meditation, gentle stretching, or simply sitting quietly for a few minutes, these intentional moments help create a transition between the busyness of the day and the rest your body deserves.

Just like a morning ritual helps you begin the day with intention, an evening ritual helps you end it with presence.

If you haven’t read my Morning Ritual blog yet, you’ll notice they beautifully complement one another—one invites you into the day, while the other gently guides you home to yourself.

Washing the Day Away

One thing I NEVER skip is taking a shower before bed.

Sometimes I’ll use a sea salt scrub.

Sometimes it’s Hot water ending with Cold Water.

As the warm water runs over me, I imagine that anything heavy from the day begins washing away.

Stress.

Overthinking.

Conversations that lingered.

Emotions that don’t belong to me.

I picture it like mud rinsing from my skin until I feel lighter, clearer, and more like myself again.

The shower becomes more than getting clean.

It becomes a reset.

Clearing My Path

As I wash my knees and feet, I naturally slow down.

Your knees and feet represent moving forward,

So I bring intention there.

I imagine clearing my path of anything that felt stuck today.

Releasing fear.

Releasing hesitation.

Releasing anything I no longer need to carry into tomorrow.

It’s a quiet reminder that each new day offers another opportunity to begin again.

Releasing What I Picked Up

Throughout the day we move through many different environments.

Work.

Stores.

Appointments.

Crowded places.

Conversations.

Some interactions leave us feeling energized.

Others leave us feeling completely drained.

I take a quiet moment and simply remind myself:

Not everything I experienced today belongs to me.

Whether you see this as an energetic practice, a mindfulness exercise, or simply a symbolic way of letting go, it creates permission to release what isn’t serving you anymore.

Rather than carrying the emotional weight of the entire day into bed, I allow it to stay where it belongs—in the past.

Calling My Energy Back

After releasing the day, I take another quiet moment to reconnect with myself.

I imagine calling my energy back from anywhere my attention has been throughout the day.

Conversations.

Responsibilities.

Worries.

Future plans.

Past experiences.

I simply return to myself.

Sometimes I’ll quietly say:

“May I be clear, grounded, and fully present within my own energy. I call all of my energy back to me with love.”

It isn’t about forcing anything.

It’s simply an invitation to come home to myself before sleep.

Creating a Peaceful Bedtime Environment

Our environment often reflects how we feel internally.

Before climbing into bed, I enjoy creating a space that feels peaceful and supportive.

Sometimes I’ll dim the lights.

Light a candle.

Diffuse calming essential oils.

Or spend a few quiet moments reading something uplifting instead of scrolling through my phone.

If I’m feeling especially overwhelmed, I’ll take a few deep breaths or listen to a shortSound Healing Playlist before bed.

Small changes like these can gently encourage the nervous system to transition toward rest.

Supporting Your Nervous System Before Sleep

Many of us spend our days constantly “doing.”

Even after sitting down for the evening, our minds often continue running through tomorrow’s to-do list.

Taking just a few intentional moments before bed can help interrupt that cycle.

Gentle breathing.

Gratitude.

A warm shower.

Journaling.

Or receiving a Therapeutic Massage or Spirit Alchemy Session earlier in the week to support nervous system regulation and deep relaxation.

Rest isn’t something we earn after doing enough.

It’s something our bodies naturally need.

Letting the Day End

One of the greatest gifts we can give ourselves is permission to stop carrying everything.

I don’t need to solve every problem tonight.

I don’t need to replay every conversation.

I don’t need to figure out tomorrow before I fall asleep.

Some things are meant to end here.

And I let them.

The Reset

You may be carrying more than you realize.

And you don’t have to bring all of it with you into tomorrow.

This isn’t about creating another perfect wellness routine.

It’s about creating one small moment to soften.

To breathe.

To release.

To remember yourself.

Whether your evening ritual lasts two minutes or twenty, what matters most is the intention behind it.

Small rituals practiced consistently have a beautiful way of changing how we experience our lives.
